At 33, I decided it was time to try something new. So this year, I picked up running.
I had tried running earlier in my twenties but neither had the interest nor the drive for it. It wasn’t until March of this year that I committed to giving it a real shot with a goal in mind to run/walk at least 5 KMs.

The first few days were pure torture. I could barely manage 100 meters without gasping for breath. It felt impossible. During this phase, I consumed a ton of content about running and experimented with different apps, amongst these the “Nike Run Club” was one that I stuck with for a couple of weeks. But, this wasn’t it!

After looking out for few more apps I finally stuck with Asics Runkeeper app. The longest streak a had with this app was 30 weeks. During this time I was able to complete the 5K program and progressed to 10K. Twice I’ve been able to run 5K in one go without walking. I’m proud of the accomplishment. This wasn’t without aches, pains and shin splits along with some physiotherapy.

Due to certain personal commitments, had to take a break from running. I got back to running today. Did a run/walk for about 4KMs felt good. Was excited to look forward to running in the upcoming weeks.

I wish I had start running much earlier. But, I’m glad I’ve started now.

There were two resources that inspired me into running one was Casey and Jeff. When I used to be a regular to Caseys Vlog during 2017-2018, when he used to show his pace and times at the start of the Vlog, I always used to wonder I can one run everyday and what does those numbers even signify? I understand them now.

I started watching Jeff recently. The content that he produces is really inspiring. I wish to run trails and explore the world like him one day.

My short term goals – I want to be able to run 10K without stopping, probably by March of next year. I’ve given my self 3 months to get myself back to running and start the 10K program with Runkeeper.

Murakami’s “What I talk about when I talk about running” is also quite inspiring. I really wish to experience the Hawaii in August and spend some time running there.
